Ben grew up in the small town of Shawnigan Lake, BC, before moving to Vermont to study Literary Studies and Russian . As part of his Bachelor of Arts degree, he spent a year studying Russian literature in Irkutsk, Russia, before settling in Montreal to complete his joint civil and common law degree at McGill University. Between degrees, Ben worked as a forest fire fighter in 100 Mile House and a registry clerk at the Duncan courthouse.
After completing his articles with a law firm in Alberta specializing in aboriginal law, Ben returned to Vancouver Island to practice family law in Victoria. He was called to the Alberta and British Columbia bars in 2018.
Ben joined Swift Datoo in September of 2019, where he maintains a varied litigation practice with a focus on family law. He appears regularly in Provincial and Supreme Court.
Ben spent three years organizing with the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, and looks forward to more volunteer opportunities in the Comox Valley. He is fluent in French and Russian, and has a passion for fly fishing and the wilderness.
