Born and raised in Burns Lake, British Columbia, the “Colorful Heart of the Lakes District”, Matt obtained a Political Science degree from the University of British Columbia in 2000. Matt spent his summers throughout his university studies tree planting in the Lakes District and in western Alberta. Before he earned his Law degree from the University of British Columbia, Matt diversified his skill set and attended the Pacific Northwest Culinary Academy in Vancouver where he earned a cooking diploma.
After graduating from UBC’s Faculty of Law in 2006, Matt completed his articles with a Vancouver firm working primarily on criminal and personal injury files. Prior to joining Swift Datoo in October 2008, Matt was an agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, prosecuting narcotics and fisheries cases. Matt maintains a broad litigation practice with a focus on personal injury, family, criminal, residential tenancy, and general litigation cases.
Matt has been a volunteer with the Salvation Army Pro Bono Legal Advice Program and has served as a board member of the Lush Valley Food Action Society and Abbeyfield House of Comox Valley Society.
